What Are International Classification Society Members

The International Association of Classification Societies (IACS)

As an international non-governmental organization established in 1968, IACS handles the inspection of 92% of merchant ships worldwide. Its membership list has undergone several adjustments, and the current 12 full members exhibit a distinct regional distribution:

Americas: U.S. Bureau of Marine Inspection (ABS), a key developer of global ship technical standards;

Europe: Bureau Veritas (BV), Det Norske Veritas (DNV), Lloyd's Register (LR), RINA (RINA), Polish Register of Shipping (PRS), Croatian Registry of Ships (CRS), and Turkish Detachment of Shipping (TL, added in 2023);

Asia: China Classification Society (CCS), Korean Detachment of Shipping (KR), ClassNK (Japan Kaiji Kyodo), and IRS (Indian Register of Shipping).

The core function of this membership system is to translate International Maritime Organization (IMO) standards into specific technical specifications, and its certification is considered a "passport" for ship materials to enter the global market.

Haomei Aluminum

The prestige of marine aluminum plate certifications directly determines a company's market access capabilities. Haomei Aluminum's aluminum sheet wholesale, with its stringent quality control, has secured multiple certifications as a core member of IACS, covering the mainstream shipping markets:

China Market: Certified by the China Classification Society (CCS), becoming a core supplier to major domestic shipping companies;

European and American Markets: It obtained authoritative certifications from ABS (USA), DNV (Norway), LR (UK), RINA(Italy) and BV (France). DNV certification, in particular, is known for its stringent standards, signifying that products have reached top international standards;

Asia Market: Certified by KR (Korea), meeting the high-end needs of the East Asian shipbuilding industry.

Obtaining these certifications is no easy feat—the audits cover the entire chain, including quality management systems, production process control, and finished product testing. For example, DNV certification requires passing dozens of tests, including seawater corrosion resistance and weld strength.

Types

Main Marine Aluminum Plates

Represented by two major alloys, 5083 and 5086, Haomei Aluminum forms a multi-specification adaptable system:

5083 Aluminum Plate: As a high-strength non-heat-treatable alloy, with a thickness ranging from 3-50mm, it possesses excellent weldability and seawater corrosion resistance, mainly used for the main hull structure, decks, and offshore facilities;

5086 Aluminum Plate: With medium strength and better formability, with a thickness of 3-50mm, it is suitable for parts susceptible to seawater corrosion, such as the hull bottom plating and side panels. Its H116 condition products can achieve a tensile strength of over 275MPa, making it highly favored in luxury yacht manufacturing;

Auxiliary Series: Aluminum plates such as 5052, 5754, 5383 and 5059 are respectively suitable for freshwater vessels, ship interiors, and pressure-resistant components, forming a complementary matrix.

Marine Profiles

At the same time, Haomei Aluminum also has a mature product system in the field of marine profiles and aluminum pipe fitting. Among them, the 5086 aluminum round bar is one of the core categories. With the characteristics of magnesium, they combine strength and processability. They can be used in conjunction with aluminum plates of the same series to ensure the material consistency of ship structures and provide reliable support for the manufacturing of precision ship components.
