6063 Alloy for Aluminum Pontoon Boat

A pontoon boat is a flat boat that relies on floats to maintain buoyancy. These pontoons (also called tubes) contain large amounts of reserve buoyancy, allowing designers to plan spacious seating areas, stand-up bars, sun pads and various other amenities such as large decks. A pontoon boat has a shallow draft of about 8 inches (20 cm), which reduces the risk of running aground or being damaged in the water and allows you to access your luggage closer to shore.

Aluminum pontoon boat refers to a new type of floating bridge made of 6063 aluminum alloy. The surface has been scientifically treated to enhance the frame's antioxidant and corrosion resistance. Aluminum pontoon boats offer high strength, ease of assembly, modern colors and durability.

Aluminum alloy pontoon bridge is divided into main pontoon bridge and branch pontoon bridge. Aluminum profiles are specially designed for marine environments, have very good corrosion resistance, are suitable for rivers, lakes and seas, and have strong versatility. The pontoon components are all connected and fixed using a shock-absorbing system.

Due to the particularity of the aluminum alloy, its application on pontoons requires extremely strict material selection and nearly demanding installation and welding processes. Building an excellent aluminum alloy pontoon requires the combination of multiple technologies, otherwise its service life will be seriously affected.

The mechanical properties of alum 6063 largely depend on the tempering or heat treatment of the material. 6063 aluminum is highly weldable, using tungsten inert gas welding. Generally, after welding, the performance near the weld is 6063-O, with a strength loss of up to 30%. 6063 aluminum can be reheat treated to restore a higher temper to the entire part.

6063-O

Unheat treated 6063 has a maximum tensile strength not exceeding 130MPa (19,000psi) and has no specified maximum yield strength. The material has an elongation (stretch before final failure) of 18%.

6063-T1

It has an ultimate tensile strength of at least 120 MPa (17,000 psi) in thicknesses up to 12.7 mm (0.5 in) and 110 MPa (16,000 psi) in thicknesses from 13 to 25 mm (0.5 to 1 in). Its elongation is 12%.

6063-T5

6063 -T5 has a maximum tensile strength of at least 140 MPa (20,000 psi) in thicknesses up to 13 mm (0.5 in) and a yield strength of at least 97 MPa (14,000 psi). Its elongation is 8%.

6063-T6

6063-T6 has an ultimate tensile strength of at least 190MPa (28,000psi) and a yield strength of at least 160MPa (23,000psi). At thicknesses of 3.15 mm (0.124 inches) or less, it has an elongation of 8% or more; in thicker parts, it has an elongation of 10%.
