6061 Aluminum Extrusion and Tread Plate for Shipbuilding

In the field of shipbuilding, 6061 aluminum profiles and patterned aluminum plates not only meet the needs of ships for lightweight and high strength, but also show excellent corrosion resistance and safety in complex marine environments.

1. Marine grade aluminum 6061 properties

6061 aluminum alloy belongs to the Al-Mg-Si alloy system, with magnesium and silicon as the main alloying elements. It has medium strength (tensile strength can reach 290MPa), good corrosion resistance and weldability. Its unique T651 state eliminates internal stress through stretching, significantly improving processing stability, and is particularly suitable for the manufacture of complex ship structures. In addition, the alloy can be anodized and colored, which not only improves the aesthetics but also enhances the surface hardness and effectively resists seawater erosion.

2. Common profile styles

Frame structure: In the keel, deck support and superstructure of the hull, 6061 aluminum extrusions often appear in the form of I-beams, grooves and T-sections. For example, the transverse dock profile of the floating dock is made of extruded 6061-T6 aluminum with built-in heavy-duty T-slots, which can directly install components such as pile guides and mooring columns to reduce the impact of drilling on structural strength.

Tubular parts: Round and square tube profiles are widely used in ship railings, ventilation ducts and masts. Its hollow structure significantly reduces weight while ensuring strength. For example, the mast of a catamaran passenger ship uses 6061 round tubes, which is 60% lighter than traditional steel and has better wind vibration resistance.

Special structural parts: Free forging technology enables 6061 aluminum alloy to manufacture hull frames and engine blocks of complex shapes.

In addition, small vessels such as fishing boats and patrol boats generally use 6061 aluminum profiles to manufacture their hulls, and its impact resistance can adapt to complex waters such as reef areas and shoals.

6061 aluminium tread plate

6061 aluminum tread plates are embossed to form diamond, five bar or lentil-shaped concave and convex textures, and the surface friction coefficient is increased to 0.6-0.8 (ordinary aluminum plate is only 0.2-0.3), which effectively prevents people from slipping in slippery environments. Anodizing treatment further enhances wear resistance, and salt spray test shows that its corrosion resistance life exceeds 20 years, which is much better than traditional steel.

Core applications

Deck system: 6061 patterned aluminum plate is a standard configuration for ship decks, especially in crowded areas such as passenger ships and ferries. Its surface texture can disperse the load and reduce fatigue cracks caused by long-term trampling.

Passages and gangways: In the ship's internal corridors, cargo hold entrances and exits, and boarding gangways, patterned aluminum plates reduce the risk of accidents through anti-skid design.

Special functional areas: These areas refer to areas where oil and dirt are prone to accumulate, such as kitchens and engine rooms. The easy-to-clean characteristics of patterned aluminum plates (surface roughness Ra≤3.2μm) facilitate daily maintenance, and their impact resistance can withstand collisions during equipment transportation.
