Aluminum Chine Extrusion and Tube for Boat
Aluminum alloys have been widely used in shipbuilding due to their many advantages such as low specific gravity, low elastic modulus, corrosion resistance, weldability, easy processing, non-magnetic and good low-temperature performance. There are many types of marine aluminum alloy extrusion profiles, covering a variety of different alloy systems and specifications to meet the needs of different parts of the ship.
According to the purpose, marine aluminum alloys can be divided into aluminum alloys for hull structure and aluminum alloys for outfitting. Aluminum alloys for hull structure are mainly used to construct the main structure of the ship, such as bulkheads, ribs, keels, bottom outer plates and sides of the ship; aluminum alloys for outfitting are used for superstructures such as masts, portholes, chimneys, and steering rooms. In these applications, aluminium boat extrusions have become an ideal choice due to their good formability and mechanical properties.
Various types of marine chine extrusion profiles
The keel is an extremely important part of the ship structure, and it plays a key role in ensuring the strength and stability of the hull. There are many types of common aluminum boat chine extrusions and most of them are made of specific aluminum alloys.
5083 aluminum alloy is a commonly used marine keel material. It belongs to the Al-Mg alloy system and has excellent corrosion resistance. It can effectively resist corrosion in seawater, and its strength after welding is not significantly reduced compared with the parent material (generally reaching more than 90% of the parent material strength). Therefore, it is often used in important structural parts such as ship hulls and keels. However, 5083 alloy is mainly strengthened by work hardening, and the production process is relatively complicated.
5383 aluminum alloy is also gradually emerging in the field of marine keels. The aluminum alloy frame keel in 5383-H112 state has a yield strength of ≥200MPa, a tensile strength of ≥310MPa, and an elongation of ≥13%, reaching and exceeding the traditional 6 series aluminum alloy frame keel. This material can not only be directly welded and used, avoiding the problem of local strength reduction of the hull caused by high temperature welding of 6 series aluminum alloy, but also has certain advantages in cost control and production process.
The status of aluminum tubes in marine profiles
Aluminium extruded tube occupies a place in marine non-ferrous metal tubes. Marine non-ferrous metal tubes mainly include copper tubes, aluminum tubes and bimetallic tubes. Aluminum tubes are light, corrosion-resistant and have good plasticity, but their mechanical strength is relatively low. In marine applications, aluminum tubes are suitable for some low-temperature and low-pressure pipelines, such as air pipes, fuel pipes, lubricating oil pipes, fresh water cooling water pipes, etc. of ships.
